Change is Not a Four Letter Word

Change is not a four letter word, …and other things.

Happy New Year, dear Tribe! I hope you all had a joyous, and memorable holiday!

Now that 2018 is firmly in the rearview mirror, I wanted to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to everyone that purchased gifts for their loved ones (or themselves) over the holiday and throughout 2018! I couldn’t do it without you, nor would I want to.

The idea that my small creations can provide happiness and beauty to you, while also becoming part of your own story is humbling, and gratifying. I truly believe we are better together, and I love that we, through my work, are connected. Even if only in a small way.

We laughed, we cried, …but it’s time to move on.

Saying goodbye to 2018 was a mixed bag for me. On one hand, there were some fantastic moments, and as a whole the year was very positive. Of course we all have our bumps in the road, life is never perfect, nor should it be.  And like you, I had mine. That said, I hold no real love or loss for the last 365. It was good –solid even. However, by December I was ready to take my lessons of the year, and my great memories and run.

But now we’re here. 2019! Are you excited for the New Year? Usually I’m pretty ambivalent, but this is the first time I can really say I am excited and ready to go. For me, this year is going to be more intentional. And, if we’re anything alike, you know how the craziness of our day to day can sweep us up, making us passengers instead of drivers in life. I hate that. It’s easy for it to happen though, and sometimes even necessary. But, I tend to let our family calendar rule our household, and that leaves us all exhausted and not having any fun. So, I’m working toward some goals that will allow me to make the most of the year, without trying to “do” or “plan” everything. Sounds simple, right? Ha! We’re taking this day by day mind you. But I gotta start somewhere, right??

Comfort, schmomfort. Time to shake things up.

As far as DCJ is concerned, now that 2019 is here, that means I’m plotting and planning what lies ahead for my biz as well. I can’t help but feel some excitement, and a teeny bit of nervousness. This year I promised myself that I would get out of my comfort zone more often. One way I plan to do this is by re-learning some old (but not forgotten) skills that will take DCJ into the future. I’m going back to class, baby! I’ve been putting this off for a long time, but I’m happy (and a little terrified) to get myself back behind a torch. I’ll keep ya posted.

Some of the things I’m planning are bigger steps, and others will be relatively small and easy, CHANGE (even though it isn’t a four letter word) can be HARD. <<<see what I did there?>>> Seriously though, as I’m sure you well know, shedding complacency, even with small steps, can be equal parts terrifying and fulfilling. I’ll maintain my sanity by staying positive, focusing on my wins, and putting one foot in front of the other. Even if it means the teeniest of teeny-tiny steps.

Let’s welcome 2019 together! As I stretch and grow as a mother, wife, friend, artist and business owner I hope that you, my friend, will join me on this journey, and share with me your goals/wins/bumps as well. Do you have any big (or little) plans for the year? Does anything you have in store for the New Year pull you out of your comfort zone? I’d love for you to share them with me, you can post them below. Don’t make me do this alone, people. Seriously. If it all goes up in flames, I want YOU to be there fanning the fire with me and roasting marshmallows! Happy New Year dear Tribe! Cheers!
